Heart awareness has always been important to me. All ancient wisdom traditions emphasize the heart, considering it the central organ of the soul. The heart possesses a deep wisdom, a creative intelligence and carries some of our innermost truths. Modern research also shows that the heart has a profound connection to both our cognitive and emotional functions. Studies at the HeartMath Institute reveal that the heart is not just a blood pump, but an intelligent system that communicates with the brain in many ways; neurologically, biochemically, biophysically and energetically. This communication infuences our mental and emotional states. Heart coherence, where the heart's rhythms are stable and harmonious, helps reduce stress and anxiety, leading to a calmer and more focused and clear mind.

The heart is also relational and has an electromagnetic field that is much stronger than the brain.  It affects the energy around us, influencing not only our own state but also the environment and people around us. An open heart has a unique quality and a healing effect on us. Initially, it may be about developing a heart for ourselves. In my experience, the heart has transformative properties; we change in a compassionate and loving climate, not in resistance and stress (fight/flight/freeze).
